Bed bug facts

Bed bugs are very small, parasitic insects, reddish brown in colour. They are flat with no wings and grow from 6 to 9 mm in length and generally hide in bed linen, mattresses, furniture or chairs. Bed bugs are only active for short periods to seek a meal of blood, typically from humans. They are attracted by the heat and carbon dioxide we produce.

Treating bed bugs

Treating bed bug infestations effectively requires a dual approach. We use an approved insecticide spray that has residual benefits and will continue to remain effective over time. Repeat visits may be necessary to ensure all bed bugs at various stages of the lifecycle have been eradicated. The insects must come in contact with the insecticide in order for the treatment to be successful.

Secondly, we recommend a series of strict housekeeping practices to be implemented to reduce further infestations. Termitrust provides professional advice on these practices as part of our overall bed bug removal services.

House cleanliness assists with the control of bed bugs, but infestations can occur with movement of bedding or luggage that has been in contact with an infestation from elsewhere, so it is important to treat the whole property and wash all linen and clothing that may have been affected.
