With less than four months until the introduction of mandatory continuing professional development (CPD) for all real estate professionals, the Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ) is preparing to lead the industry through the transition.
REIQ CEO Antonia Mercorella said the state peak body had spearheaded CPD for real estate professionals and was now shaping what it would look like come 6 June 2025.
“We advocated long and hard for CPD to raise the levels of professionalism of all practising real estate professionals across Queensland, and we’re committed to seeing it through to fruition,” Ms Mercorella said.
“As a key contributor to the Office of Fair Trading’s (OFT) Advisory Panel, the REIQ has played an instrumental role in shaping the CPD framework to ensure it remains relevant and beneficial for all real estate professionals.
“We’re readying our training resources to meet the new CPD obligations to make staying compliant as straightforward and simple as possible for professionals.
“As the state’s peak body and leading provider of real estate training, the REIQ is well-positioned to provide CPD programs that are highly practical to real-world real estate practice and reflect the evolving needs of professionals.
“We know that when it comes to learning preferences it’s horses for courses, so we’ll have a variety of tailored CPD topics as well as delivery methods – such as face-to-face events, live online courses, and on-demand online video recordings.
“We’ll also have tools to track completed training so that professionals can easily ensure they stay ahead of the new benchmark.”
Ms Mercorella explained that from 6 June 2025, all Queensland real estate professionals – including agents, property managers, auctioneers, business brokers, and more – must complete approved CPD training each year to maintain their licences and registrations.
The new CPD requirements, set by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT), will see each real estate professional complete two approved CPD sessions each year from the anniversary of their licence or registration date. These sessions are designed to keep industry professionals up to date with legislative changes, best practices, and trends, while also promoting professionalism, customer service, and ethical business conduct.
